Pros:
- graphics and animations. Reminds me of miniature table top wargaming. I really like how this was done on this game, with the exception of the infantry charge, which is a little weak.
- easy to learn (tutorial) easy to play.
- game scale, the map and units just simply work well. Dont need zoom in/out, dont want zoom in/out.
- theme, love American Civil War games.
Cons:
- no ability to control unit facing, which was such a critical aspect in tactics of the period.
- maps too small, not able to take full advantage of calvary speed and maneuverability.
In short, Civil War 1863 is just the kind of game Im looking for to play on the iPad. My thanks go out to the developers for doing a wonderful job. With just a little more focus on unit facing and the devestating effect that a flanking move would have had in that type of warfare (see Sid Meiers Gettysburg), I would have given the game 5 stars. As it is, its well worth the couple bucks I paid for it simply because....its fun. I hope more developers follow suit.
Myles.
